How can we help?
Answers to common questions about HotSpringer. If you don't find what you need, we're happy to help by email.
Frequently asked questions
Is HotSpringer a social network? Can other people see my springs?
No. There are no profiles, followers, feeds, reviews, or public maps. Your collection lives only on your iPhone, and nobody else can see it, including us.
A spring leaves your phone only when you choose to send it to someone.
Does HotSpringer publish or share hot spring locations?
No. HotSpringer never publishes locations, and there are no public links or pages. When you share, the app creates a file that you send directly to someone you choose, like a text or AirDrop.
Shared photos have their location data removed by default.
Won't an app like this lead to crowded or damaged springs?
We share that concern, and it shaped the app. HotSpringer has no directory, rankings, or public map that could send crowds to a spring. It only holds places you already know, and springs pass from one person to another, the way they always have.
Please share thoughtfully, respect closures and private and tribal land, and leave every pool as you found it.
Where is my HotSpringer data stored?
Only on your iPhone. There's no account, and SentraSense has no servers that receive your springs, visits, photos, notes, or locations.
Because we don't have a copy, we can't restore your data. Make regular backups (see below).
How do I back up my collection or move it to a new iPhone?
Go to Settings → Import / Export and tap Export Data. This creates a complete .hotspringer backup file that you can save to Files or AirDrop to another device. On the new iPhone, open the file or use Import Data on the same screen.
A backup includes everything, including visit history and private photos in readable form, so keep backup files somewhere safe.
How do I share springs with a friend?
Tap the Share button on any spring, or tap Select in the Springs list to choose several. You decide whether to include photos and personal notes. Your visit history is never included.
Your friend opens the .hotsprings file in HotSpringer to add the springs to their collection.
How does automatic visit detection work?
Turn on Auto-Visit Detection in Settings and allow “Always” location access. HotSpringer then notices when you arrive at a spring you've saved and records the visit, optionally with a notification. You can adjust the detection radius and the minimum visit duration.
Your location is processed on your iPhone and is never sent to us. The rest of the app works without location access.
What are private photos?
Long-press any photo and choose Lock Photo to hide it behind a code. Private photos are encrypted on your iPhone. Manage the code in Settings → Private Photos.
The code can't be recovered if you forget it, so choose one you'll remember.
Does HotSpringer include a directory of hot springs?
No. HotSpringer is a personal journal, not a directory, and it starts empty. You build your own collection from springs you find, research, or receive from friends.
Natural hot springs can be dangerous, and access rules vary. Many springs are on private or tribal land or are culturally significant, so check land access and current conditions with official sources before you go.
Which devices does HotSpringer support?
HotSpringer is available for iPhone running iOS 26.1 or later.
